REMEMBER THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF FALL ROSTER OVERANALYSIS: All weight gain or loss is good.

Now, ITEMS OF INTEREST!

Man we recruited some skinny corners. Terry Richardson is still scrambling to get up to 170 pounds, and while he's five pounds heavier than he was when he was a tiny tiny person in the spring game, you should take Terry Richardson and stretch him out a half-foot taller to get an idea of how thick Channing Stribling and Reon Dawson are. Jourdan Lewis isn't quite as extreme, but he has an inch or two on Richardson and just three pounds. Here are your redshirts, gentlemen.

On the other hand, Delano Hill comes in at the same 205 Thomas Gordon did and will probably stay within three pounds of that number for the duration of his career. Let's stop recruiting anyone who's not a safety from Cass Tech, but continue recruiting safeties.

Chris Fox is alarmingly big. 338 is not so good. Knee surgery is obviously a downer for fitness levels, but I'd be surprised if he was ready to compete for a starting job next year. He'll probably need two to round in to shape.

Meanwhile in injured linemen who get too heavy, Chris Bryant is down about ten pounds from spring, which will help him see the field. Kalis and Braden are on the slow and steady gain track that generally indicates you're physically ready to see the field; would like to see Magnuson get into the 300 pound rage; not sure what to make of LTT's additional 15 pounds from spring. Good or bad?

Just going by weights, if a freshman has to see the field it'll be Bosch or Kugler.

Derrick Green is 240. Would we like him to be 230 or 235 maybe? We'll have to wait until he shows something on the field to know. Shallman's actually three pounds lighter; Smith comes in at 224. The rest of the tailbacks are almost pound for pound where they were in spring.

Chesson continues to add weight. Up three from spring to 196; gain slowing down but still going. No other receivers changed significantly.

Funchess put some pounds on. Funchess is now up to 235, vaguely plausible as a blocker. Butt's already bigger, and Khalid Hill is a load at 258. That seems too big to me, but I did compare the guy to Lutzenkirchen, who was exactly that weight. Meanwhile AJ Williams is static at 265 after playing at 282 as a freshman.

The defensive line is growing slowly. No big move from Black, who adds two pounds to just pip Frank Clark in the race to not be the smallest starter on the defensive line. Eveyone else adds a few pounds; Ojemudia is up to 250 after starting last year at 223; Maurice Hurst comes in way more svelte than he was as a recruit at 270. They'll be putting weight on instead of taking it off.

Meanwhile, Pipkins is moving back up after dropping nearly 30 pounds last year.

James Ross lost weight. Merph. Desmond Morgan did too, but Morgan brings the heat on tackles and could stand to be a little more athletic. Ross had a bit of trouble getting big backs down last year and lost five pounds. In fact the only significant weight gains in the LB corps came from Allen Gant, who moved down from safety and is a very small SAM at 212, and Royce Jenkins-Stone, who added about 20 pounds from last year to actually surpass Ross.

Man we brought in some big linebackers. If Ben Gedeon is really 6'3", 236, and running 4.6 40s while lifting a billion pounds, Joe Bolden is going to have a fierce challenge as early as this year. After all the kerfuffle about McCray's weight, he checks in at a SAM-like 6'4", 237.

This has been Fall Roster Overanalysis. I hope you enjoyed it.
